A funny story about a fisherman fishing from the banks of the river. He was catching fish left and right. He certainly had the skill and passion for fishing, and it showed. A little boy from far off was watching this man pull in one fish after another. After a long session of observing what the fisherman was doing the little boy got curious about the fisherman’s behavior. The boy watched the fisherman catch the fish- reel it in -and then took a tape measure to measure the fish. The boy witnessed the fisherman toss back so many fish and he thought maybe there was some kind of law or rule to the type of fish the man was catching. So the boy approached the fisherman and asked him why he was throwing back all the fish and only keeping a few. The fisherman replied to the little boy, “well son, my frying pan is only six inches long. I throw back the ones that are too big to fit in my pan.”

This story is a wonderful reflection of how we let our current conditions dictate our lives. The fisherman could only keep the fish that fit in his pan. We do that with our bank accounts, relationships, work life, and in our health. We become in agreement with the conditions that are presented to us and then live our lives within the scope of the condition. And you and I know well and full that is not how God intended us to live. He desires us to live in abundance, not conditions that keep us from abundance.
